There is no weekend or evening working required.
The Independent School Nursing service works directly with individual schools providing an on site School Nurse for a number of hours a week or fortnight. We are not part of the statutory NHS or LA provision and work to complement these services by providing a much more intensive service without the need for complex referral processes. The role involves all aspects of childhood health interventions and supporting schools and parents to ensure inequalities in health are identified and addressed. The age range we work with is predominately from 2 to 14 years. Each school has different requirements with some needing parental appointments and advice sessions and others wanting PSHE lessons and one to ones with children. The ideal candidate will have a good working knowledge of child development, parenting, behaviour, anxiety, anger, continence, sleep and first level mental health interventions for children in school as well as delivering PSHE and other health related lessons. Experience of making CAMHS/ CYPS, OT, GP referrals and evidence building for EHCP and other referral pathways is essential as is a problem solving attitude and a proactive approach to addressing inequality. We do not hold a safeguarding caseload in this role but may become involved in Early Help meetings if held in school. The ideal candidate is expected to have experience of front line safeguarding and information governance policy and know what action to take when a safeguarding issue arises. You will be responsible for managing your own schools and caseloads of children within the school setting.
The role is extremely rewarding and involves being a visible member of staff in class, with parents and in the school environment. It requires an individual who can work autonomously with minimal direction and who can work to develop the role as the service evolves. The benefits of this role are that you become part of the school team. You get to know the children and their parents and are able to identify issues early. You are able to have a massive impact for families that may be struggling and support them as long as they need you. You build a reputation in the schools as being able to bring a new perspective to the school environment and are very valued by the schools as a resource and source of advice. The role can cover as much or as little as you wish, and you can develop your skills and knowledge as you go. We are keen to work with innovative proactive people and are happy to support you to develop skills through training and support. Advantages: Regular DBS checks and evidence. Regular Supervision from skilled School Nurses. Regular work in the same schools and the opportunity to get to know the needs of the children without the constraints of statutory provision. Support through revalidation. Access to training and career development. Term time only. Equivalent to Band 7 hourly rate.
